Vintage Seiko 6138-8020 'Gold Panda' from May 1977. Gorgeous black dial in near mint condition, same goes for the white sweep and sub hands, indices and Seiko applied logo. Day/Date display at 3 o'clock with English/Arabic texts, a cool feature of this set up is that Friday is red in Arabic but Sunday for English. This reference is commonly referred to as the 'Gold Panda' after it's silver/ grey sub dialed cousin. Interestingly the 6138 movement was actually the successor of the 6139 (now widely accepted as the first automatic chronograph brought to market in 1969) and watches featuring both movements were produced in parallel until circa 1978 when both were discontinued. A useful feature of the 6138 is that unlike their 6139 cousins they can be hand-wound.
All original except for crystal and comes on its original two tone bracelet with Seiko signed clasp. The movement is clean, free of any deterioration and keeping great vintage time. Automatic chronograph with a thirty minute register at 6 o’clock and a 12 hour register at 12. Chronograph functions all working as they should, pushers click nice and firmly and sweep hand resets perfectly to 12. Cosmetically in excellent condition. Dial, hands and indices near perfect with original lume in great condition.
Movement: Original, SEIKO Suwa 21 J 6138B in great condition (21,600 beats per hour). Day/date turn over at midnight & quickset works as it should.
Service history unknown but movement is clean and running strong. Pusher, crown and caseback gaskets have been replaced/ lubricated but not guaranteed water resistant.
Dial: Black, excellent condition, lume on indices & hands is original and in super condition.
Day/Date at 3 o'clock Day in English and Arabic, features the classic Sunday in red (Friday on the Arabic days). Operated by turning the crown in position 2
Glass: Unmarked, replaced (original available on request)
Case: Original, unpolished Solid Gold Plate (SGP), minor age related wear but in overall excellent condition. None of the pitting/deterioration commonly found on these SGP variants. Caseback is in great shape with serial number and reference numbers still clearly legible
Crown: Original, well fitted, some wear to original SGP
